GMO Products And Organic Food

What are genetically modified organisms or GMO products? They are plants or animals that are subjected to a procedure whereby a gene or group of genes are extracted from one plant or animal and inserted into another.

For me, this is a deal breaker. Seriously, corporations are asserting that they have a better understanding of life than "Mother Nature" and her 4.5 billion years of experience. That's a lot of experience to try and trump.

It's not only that but the fact is for many GMO products the purpose is to increase the crops tolerance to pesticides. Ok! Well that means that those crops, aside from being genetically modified, are loaded with pesticides. YUMMY!

There is a really good blog about organic food that I like. It's The Organic Food Blog.

Seasonality Of Ingredients Matters

In our modern fast paced lives it's tempting to look past seasonality. We can buy tomatoes in January or squash in July, but those tomatoes or that squash, having been shipped from the other side of the planet, are going to be woody, watery, flavorless and unripe and the flesh is going to be off color.

Eating within the season, that is, choosing to buy and cook those things that are in season, naturally provides your body with a balanced diet, that delivers a full range of nutrients.
